What does the Alcopa Auction API give me?

The Alcopa Auction API lets you search the lots of every open sale by make, model, year, mileage, price, fuel and transmission, get a single lot record by its ID and read the event feed: new lots, new prices or bids, and closed lots with the reason.

What data comes with each lot?

About the sale: the starting price or current bid in euros with a flag showing whether auction fees are included, physical auction or online sale, the sale date and the lot number. About the car: first registration date, mileage, fuel, transmission, displacement and power, full VIN and registration number, CO2 emissions, recoverable VAT, auction warranty, storage location and photos. About condition: bodywork defects by area with photos, fault notes, auction comments, links to the technical inspection report and the history report, and for some EVs and plug-in hybrids the battery state of health in percent.

What does the lot price mean?

The price field holds the current bid, or the starting price while there are no bids yet; price_type tells you which. In online sales the auction fees are already included in the price, at physical auctions they are added on top, and fees_included shows which applies. Until the auction has set a price, price is -1; once set, the price arrives in the feed as a changed event. The auction does not publish the hammer price.

How can I assess a car's condition before bidding?

If the auction has mapped the bodywork defects, the record lists them: the area and the type of repair (paint, panel work, dent removal or replacement), plus photos of the defects. Separately, there are the auction's fault notes, for example a warning light on the dashboard or a clutch that needs checking, and comments on the lot. Links to the technical inspection report, the vehicle history report and the battery certificate come when these documents exist and stay valid while the lot is on sale.

How is Alcopa Auction different from mobile.de and AutoScout24?

On mobile.de and AutoScout24, dealers and private sellers offer cars at retail prices. On Alcopa Auction, leasing companies, banks and corporate fleets send cars to auction, and bidding starts at the starting price. All three marketplaces are available through the same API methods, so auction starting prices are easy to compare with retail prices for the same models.

What format does the data come in?

API responses are in JSON. Once a day we prepare files in three formats (CSV, JSON, XLSX): all open lots, the lots added that day and the lots closed that day. The files have the same fields as the API.

Where to start:

1. First, call /change_id with today's date in Paris time and store the response; if it returns 0, try again a little later. Then fetch every page of /offers until next_page comes back null.

2. Next, read /changes starting from the stored ID, passing next_change_id from each response: this brings you new lots, new prices and bids, and closed lots with the reason. If next_change_id comes back null, there are no new events yet: repeat the request later with the same ID.

3. To source cars to order, call /offers with filters by make, model, year, mileage, price, fuel, transmission, vehicle category and color.

id - record number in our database; use inner_id to match it with the lot
inner_id - lot identifier on Alcopa Auction; a car listed in two sales has two lots and two inner_id values
url - link to the lot on alcopa-auction.fr
mark, model - make and model, e.g. PEUGEOT and 308
complectation - version from the auction catalog: model, engine and trim in one line
title - lot title, the make plus the version
year - first registration year; for machinery, the year of manufacture
price - current bid or starting price in euros, price_type says which; -1 until the auction has set a price
km_age - mileage in kilometers; empty when the mileage is unknown
color - body color, values from /filters; rare and manufacturer-specific names come as written on the site

A removed event with the reason in removed_reason: sold if the lot was sold, ended if the sale finished or the lot was relisted with no sale recorded, gone if the lot was taken off the site. One car may be listed in a physical auction and online at the same time; these are two lots with their own prices and dates, and product_id links them.

Alcopa Auction

Alcopa Auction (alcopa-auction.fr) has been France's largest car auction by turnover for several years now, with auction halls in Beauvais, Rennes, Tours, Nancy, Lyon, Marseille and near Paris, plus daily online sales. The cars come from leasing companies, banks, carmakers with their dealer networks and corporate fleets, so the catalog consists mostly of lease and fleet returns.

Sales run in two ways. In the auction halls, lots go under the hammer on a set day, and you can leave a bid online before the sale starts; auction fees there are added on top of the price. In online sales, bids are accepted until the announced closing time, and auction fees are already included in the price. Some lots, including non-running vehicles, are sold to motor trade professionals only.

For an importer, this is a way to buy cars before the dealer markup is added and to judge their condition from the defect map, the technical inspection report and the history report when the auction has attached them. New lots of the model you need arrive as events in the feed. The VIN, first registration date, displacement and power let you estimate import duties and fees in advance, and the recoverable VAT flag shows which lots work out cheaper when exported outside the EU.

New lots, new prices and bids, and closed lots with the reason arrive through /changes. You don't need a parser of your own for this.
